The Cup Noodles Museum is built around one invention and the obsessive who produced it. Momofuku Ando developed instant ramen in a backyard shed in Osaka in 1958, then invented the cup version in 1971 after watching Americans break noodles into paper cups. The museum in Yokohama's Minato Mirai district covers that story with a reconstruction of the shed and a wall displaying every instant noodle package the company has produced since — a genuinely striking piece of design history — but the reason most people come is the workshops.

At My CUPNOODLES Factory you design and decorate your own cup, choose the soup base and four toppings from a rotating selection, watch it filled and sealed, and take it home in an inflatable carrier. At the Chicken Ramen Factory you make noodles from scratch: kneading, rolling, steaming and flash-frying. The second requires advance reservation and takes around ninety minutes. Places at both are limited and fill quickly at weekends and during Japanese school holidays, which makes booking ahead materially more important here than at a conventional museum.

Bookable options include guided tours with tastings, and combined formats pairing the museum with the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum — a very different proposition, a basement recreation of a 1958 Tokyo streetscape lined with regional ramen shops.
