Discovery Museum Abuja is Nigeria’s first digital museum, blending technology with storytelling to showcase the nation’s rich history and culture. The museum’s layout includes sections dedicated to the major ethnic groups—Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba—each presenting their traditional economic activities. A notable feature is the Slave Tunnel, an immersive experience depicting the history of slavery. Discovery Museum Abuja is Nigeria's first digital museum, and the choice of medium is deliberate: rather than assembling artefacts, it uses projection, interactive installation, virtual reality and sound to tell the country's story, which sidesteps the problem that much of Nigeria's material heritage sits in European collections.

The layout gives space to the three largest ethnic groups — Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba — covering their traditional economies, social structures and cultural practices, alongside sections on Nigeria's contemporary innovation and creative industries.

The Slave Tunnel is the most affecting element: an immersive walk-through recreating the experience of capture and transport during the transatlantic trade, which West African museums often address more directly than institutions elsewhere.
