The Dali Museum in St Petersburg holds the largest collection of his work outside Europe — 96 oil paintings, over 100 watercolours and drawings, and thousands of prints, photographs and objects, assembled by A. Reynolds and Eleanor Morse, an Ohio couple who began buying in 1943 and became friends with the artist.

The masterworks are the reason to go: eight of the eighteen paintings Dali made larger than five feet, including The Hallucinogenic Toreador and The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, which reward the space the museum gives them.

The 2011 building responds to Florida's hurricane risk with eighteen-inch concrete walls, pierced by a free-form glass structure called the Enigma made of over a thousand triangular panes.

An outdoor labyrinth garden and a melting clock bench complete it.
