Djerba Explore near Midoun combines three things on one site: a crocodile park holding several hundred Nile crocodiles in landscaped enclosures, a heritage museum covering Tunisian and Islamic culture, and a reconstructed traditional village.

The crocodiles are the draw. The animals were brought from Madagascar, and feeding times draw crowds — the species was historically present in North Africa and has long since disappeared from the region.

The Lalla Hadria museum holds Islamic art and Tunisian craft — ceramics, textiles, jewellery, woodwork and manuscripts — across a substantial collection covering the wider Arab world.

Djerba itself is an island in the Gulf of Gabes with a distinct identity: a Berber population, one of the oldest continuously inhabited Jewish communities in the world at the El Ghriba synagogue, and a strong pottery tradition.
