MUJA sits on a headland above the Asturian coast, and the building is shaped like a dinosaur footprint seen from above — a three-lobed structure referencing the tracks that make this stretch of shore internationally significant. The Jurassic coast between Gijón and Ribadesella preserves thousands of dinosaur footprints in the cliffs and wave-cut platforms, some of them among the largest recorded anywhere, exposed at low tide.
The museum explains and displays that: original fossils from the Asturian sites, casts, life-size reconstructions, and a chronological route through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.
