MMM Corones sits at 2,275 metres on the summit plateau of Kronplatz, and Zaha Hadid buried most of it in the mountain — concrete forms embedded in the rock, with visitors descending through curving underground galleries to glass viewing apertures that open onto the Zillertal Alps, the Dolomites and Marmolada. It was among her last completed works, opened in 2015.

It is the sixth of Reinhold Messner's six mountain museums, and its subject is traditional alpinism: the history of rock and ice climbing, the equipment, the great faces and the people who climbed them, drawn from Messner's own collection and from the wider history of the sport. Messner was the first to climb all fourteen eight-thousanders and the first to summit Everest without supplementary oxygen, which gives the curation unusual authority.

Access is by cable car from Bruneck, Olang or Percha, and the museum is only open during the lift seasons — closed in the shoulder periods, which catches people out.
