The Diocesan Museum occupies the Episcopal Palace beside Palma's cathedral, and its collection of over 1,200 ecclesiastical objects covers Mallorcan religious art from the medieval period onward — altarpieces, panel paintings, sculpture, liturgical silver, vestments and manuscripts drawn from churches across the island.

The outstanding work is Pere Niçard's Saint George altarpiece of around 1470, whose background contains the earliest known detailed depiction of Palma, showing the medieval city, its walls and harbour in enough detail to be used as a historical source.

Gothic panel painting is the collection's strength generally. Mallorca was a Crown of Aragon possession with Mediterranean trade connections, and its fifteenth-century painters absorbed Flemish and Italian influence in distinctive combinations.
