The Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City features an extensive collection of modern Mexican art, including works by Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, set within Chapultepec Park.

The Museo de Arte Moderno opened in 1964 in Chapultepec Park, in a pair of circular modernist pavilions by Pedro Ramírez Vázquez — the same architect responsible for the Anthropology Museum nearby — with a sculpture garden between them.

The collection covers twentieth-century Mexican art, and its single most famous holding is Frida Kahlo's The Two Fridas, her largest painting, made in 1939 as her marriage to Rivera collapsed. Around it sit works by Rivera, Siqueiros, Orozco, Tamayo, Remedios Varo, Leonora Carrington and Gerzso — the Mexican school alongside the European surrealists who settled in Mexico as refugees and transformed its art.

That surrealist strand is worth noting: Breton famously called Mexico the surrealist country par excellence, and the presence of Varo, Carrington and others gives the collection a distinctive character.
