Moser has made glass at Karlovy Vary since 1857, and its distinction is technical: the glass is lead-free, coloured with metal oxides through the body rather than applied, and cut and engraved by hand. It supplied European courts — the Persian shah, the Ottoman sultan, the British and Norwegian monarchies — and is still made on the same site.

The museum covers over 150 years of that production, with more than 2,000 pieces tracing the styles from historicism through Art Nouveau and Art Deco to the present, alongside the archive of designs and the royal commissions.

The glassworks tour is the better half. Visitors watch glassblowers working the furnaces at temperatures around 1,300 degrees, shaping pieces by hand in a process almost unchanged in a century — genuinely impressive, and hot.
