Gyumri is Armenia's second city, badly damaged by the 1988 earthquake and still rebuilding decades later, with a preserved nineteenth-century black tuff old town that is architecturally the finest in the country. Its Museum of Illusions, opened in 2018, is a small franchise branch — optical illusions, holograms, an Ames room, immersive spaces and puzzles across a compact venue.

The reason it matters here is context rather than content. Gyumri has few attractions aimed at children, and the city sees far fewer visitors than Yerevan, so a family-oriented indoor option carries more weight than the same museum would in a capital. Armenian winters are severe, which adds to the case.
