The Corsa all'Anello is Narni's medieval festival, held each May since the fourteenth century: riders from the city's three districts gallop at full speed toward a suspended ring, attempting to spear it with a lance. It is one of the older surviving equestrian contests in Italy and the focus of the town's year.

The museum presents medieval Narni through multimedia rather than objects — projections, interactive installations and reconstructions covering the festival, the districts and daily life in an Umbrian hill town of the period.

Narni is worth more attention than it receives. It gave its Roman name, Narnia, to C. S. Lewis, who took it from an atlas. Below the town lies Narni Sotterranea, a rediscovered complex including a twelfth-century church, a Roman cistern and an Inquisition cell covered in prisoners' graffiti — arguably the more remarkable attraction.
