This museum sits at the foot of Meteora, and it is two collections in one building. The natural history section presents Greek fauna — birds, mammals and reptiles — in large dioramas reconstructing their habitats, made by taxidermists to a notably high standard, covering species from the Pindus mountains, wetlands and coasts.

The mushroom museum is the unexpected part: around 300 species of Greek fungi reproduced in accurate models, covering edible, poisonous and medicinal varieties, with material on mycology, foraging traditions and the role of mushrooms in the local economy. The Meteora region is a serious foraging area, and the museum is the only one of its kind in Greece.

Its practical value is as an indoor stop in Kalambaka, the town beneath the Meteora rock pillars, where the monasteries dominate everything and there is little else when the weather closes in.
