Cup Noodles Museum Osaka Ikeda

Located in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture, the Cup Noodles Museum Osaka Ikeda offers interactive exhibits on the history of instant ramen, including the ‘My Cup Noodles Factory’ and ‘Chicken Ramen Factory’ where visitors can create their own unique cup noodles.

Planning your visit

The Ikeda museum is where instant ramen was actually invented, which makes it the original rather than the larger Yokohama branch. Momofuku Ando developed the product in a shed behind his house in Ikeda in 1958, and that shed has been reconstructed on site — a small wooden structure with a few pots, where he spent a year working out how to flash-fry noodles so they would rehydrate in hot water. The exhibition covers that story, the tunnel of instant noodle packaging showing every product since, and the development of the cup format.

Like Yokohama, the draw is participation. My Cup Noodles Factory lets visitors decorate a cup and choose soup and toppings; the Chicken Ramen Factory involves making noodles from scratch by hand, and requires advance reservation. Admission to the museum itself is free, with charges for the workshop activities.

It is in Osaka Prefecture, about half an hour from central Osaka on the Hankyu line, and considerably less crowded than the Yokohama branch.
