Plimoth Patuxet was renamed in 2020, and the change is the point: the site presents both the seventeenth-century English colonial village and the Wampanoag homesite, on the argument that Plymouth's story cannot be told from one side.

The English village is staffed by costumed interpreters who remain in character as specific 1620s colonists, speaking period English and answering as those people would.

The Wampanoag homesite is staffed by Native people speaking as themselves, from the present, about their history and continuing presence — a deliberate methodological difference, refusing to have Indigenous people perform as historical characters for visitors.

That contrast is what makes the site interesting rather than quaint, and it addresses the Thanksgiving mythology with more honesty than most American historic sites manage.

Mayflower II, a full-size reproduction, is moored in Plymouth harbour and covered by combined tickets.
