Terry Fox is the centrepiece and the reason the museum carries weight beyond sport. In 1980, having lost a leg to cancer at eighteen, he set out to run across Canada on a prosthetic limb to raise money for cancer research, covering 42 kilometres a day for 143 days before the disease returned and stopped him near Thunder Bay. He died at 22. The annual runs held in his name have raised over 0 million. The gallery holds his prosthetic leg and the van he travelled in.
