Tampa Museum of Art

The Tampa Museum of Art, founded in 1920, is located along downtown Tampa’s scenic Hillsborough River. It houses one of the largest collections of Greek and Roman antiquities in the southeastern United States, alongside modern and contemporary art, including sculpture, photography, painting, and new media.

The Tampa Museum of Art holds one of the largest collections of Greek and Roman antiquities in the southeastern United States — Attic vases, Roman portrait busts and sculpture — which is an unlikely holding for a Florida city and the result of the Joseph Veach Noble collection acquired in the 1980s.

Modern and contemporary art forms the other half, with photography, sculpture, painting and new media, and the exhibition programme is active.

The 2010 building by Stanley Saitowitz sits on the Hillsborough River in Curtis Hixon Park, its cantilevered upper floor sheathed in a perforated metal skin that is lit at night by a Leo Villareal light installation and becomes a landmark along the Riverwalk.

The Glazer Children's Museum is next door and the Riverwalk connects the whole downtown waterfront.
