The Ulster Transport Museum at Cultra holds one of the most significant transport collections in Europe, and its argument is social: how people moved, and what that did to work, migration and daily life in the north of Ireland.
The railway galleries are extensive, with locomotives including the Maedb, the largest and heaviest ever built in Ireland. Trams, trolleybuses, horse-drawn vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles fill the rest.
Two exhibits carry the local weight. The Titanic gallery covers the ship as a Belfast product of Harland and Wolff, the yard that dominated the city's economy. The DeLorean DMC-12 gallery covers the stainless-steel car built at Dunmurry from 1981, whose spectacular commercial failure cost thousands of jobs and whose afterlife in film made it famous.
