The Vest-Agder Museum at Kongsgård outside Kristiansand is an open-air museum of southern Norwegian building traditions — around forty relocated wooden structures, farmhouses, storehouses, workshops and a school, grouped into farmyards and a small town street.

Southern Norway's distinctive contribution is maritime. This was a coast of shipping, timber export and seafaring, and the museum covers boat building, sailmaking and the trades that supported the merchant fleet, alongside the agricultural material.

The Setesdal valley buildings are the architecturally interesting group: log construction from an inland valley that remained culturally distinct and conservative well into the twentieth century, preserving building forms and decoration that had disappeared elsewhere.

Interiors are furnished and the site is used for seasonal events, particularly in summer when Kristiansand fills with Norwegian holidaymakers.

The museum operates on a seasonal schedule, with limited winter opening.
