ArtScience Museum

Located within Marina Bay Sands, ArtScience Museum is Singapore’s premier institution dedicated to the fusion of art and science. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the museum’s lotus-inspired architecture houses 21 gallery spaces spanning nearly 5,000 square meters. Since its opening in 2011, it has hosted major exhibitions by artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Salvador Dalí, and Vincent Van Gogh, as well as scientific exhibitions covering topics such as big data, particle physics, and space exploration. The museum’s permanent exhibition, ‘Future World: Where Art Meets Science,’ is a collaboration with the Japanese art collective teamLab, offering an immersive digital experience that responds to visitors’ movements. ArtScience Museum also partners with renowned institutions worldwide to present international exhibitions, positioning Singapore as a hub for innovative exhibition-making that bridges disciplines and audiences. Visitors can engage with interactive displays, attend educational programs, and participate in events that highlight the dynamic relationship between art and science.

Planning your visit

The ArtScience Museum is the lotus-shaped building at Marina Bay Sands, and Moshe Safdie designed it with ten "fingers" whose skylights channel rainwater down through the centre into a reflecting pool — the building collects and recycles its own water as part of the architecture. Twenty-one galleries across nearly 5,000 square metres are given to the intersection its name promises, hosting major touring exhibitions on Leonardo, Dalí and Van Gogh alongside scientific shows on particle physics, big data and space exploration.

The permanent draw is Future World, developed with the Japanese collective teamLab: darkened rooms of large-scale digital installations that respond to movement and touch — flowers that bloom and scatter as you approach, a slide that generates a projected ecosystem, drawings that visitors colour and then watch swim onto the walls. It works exceptionally well with children and is heavily photographed, which means the popular rooms queue at peak times.

Timed entry helps, and weekday mornings are noticeably calmer than weekend afternoons. Allow two hours for Future World alone, more with a touring exhibition.
