Aviodrome sits at Lelystad airport on land reclaimed from the Zuiderzee, which is a fitting location for a museum about engineering ambition. Over 100 aircraft cover Dutch and international aviation from the earliest flying machines through the Fokker years — Anthony Fokker was Dutch, and his aircraft dominated German air power in the First World War before he built airliners between the wars — to KLM, the world's oldest airline still operating under its original name.

The centrepieces are large: a Douglas DC-2 and DC-3 in KLM colours, a Boeing 747 that visitors board, and a reconstruction of the original 1928 Schiphol terminal building, complete with period fittings.

Flight simulators, a 4D cinema and extensive interactive material make it strong for families, and pleasure flights operate from the adjacent airfield in season.

It is a substantial site requiring several hours.
