Brooklands opened in 1907 as the first purpose-built motor racing circuit in the world — a banked concrete oval near Weybridge, built because racing on public roads was illegal in Britain. It became the centre of British motorsport and, almost immediately, of British aviation: aircraft were built and flown from the infield, and Vickers and Hawker manufactured here through both world wars.

The museum preserves surviving sections of the banking, which rise steeply and are genuinely startling to stand beneath, along with the clubhouse, workshops and the aircraft factory.

The collection covers racing cars and motorcycles from the circuit's era, and aircraft including a Wellington bomber recovered from Loch Ness and a Concorde that visitors board — the aircraft was assembled partly at Brooklands.

The London Bus Museum shares the site.

Racing ended in 1939 when the airfield took priority, and the circuit never reopened.
