Mojacar is a white hill village in Almeria, one of the most photographed in Andalusia, and its whitewashed cubic houses stacked up a rock outcrop reflect the region's Moorish inheritance — the name and much of the layout are Andalusi in origin.

Casa de la Canana preserves one such house as it was lived in during the early twentieth century, before tourism transformed the village. The rooms are furnished with original pieces: the kitchen with its hearth and utensils, the bedrooms, the storage spaces, the water jars, the tools of a household in a poor and arid region.

Almeria was among the poorest parts of Spain, and the museum documents a subsistence life that persisted well into living memory — Mojacar's population collapsed through emigration before the coast was developed.

The house also holds material on local dress and customs.
