Cal Gerrer is an unlikely combination. A restored 1851 ceramics factory in Sant Cugat del Valles now holds three things: the art of the Cabanas-Alibau family, local Arpi pottery, and one of Europe's more substantial private collections of Marilyn Monroe material.

The Monroe holding came from the collector Lluis Ribas and includes photographs, documents, personal items and memorabilia, presented as a study of celebrity and image-making rather than as fan display.

The pottery covers the building's own history — Sant Cugat had a ceramics industry, and the factory produced the terracotta water jars the town was known for.

The Cabanas-Alibau collection covers a local artistic family across generations.

Sant Cugat sits above Barcelona beyond the Collserola ridge, reachable by train, and its Romanesque monastery with a famous carved cloister is the town's principal attraction.
