Choco Story Beirut covers the 5,500-year history of cacao — from Mesoamerican ritual drink through the Spanish introduction to Europe, the addition of sugar and milk, and the industrial transformation into the modern bar — using artefacts, reconstructions and interactive displays, with demonstrations of tempering and moulding and generous tasting throughout.

The Beirut branch belongs to an international group with museums in Paris, Bruges, Prague and elsewhere, and it follows the established format competently.

For Beirut specifically, the museum has operated through a period of extraordinary difficulty for the city — the economic collapse, the 2020 port explosion — and cultural venues continuing to function there do so against considerable odds.

Workshops let visitors make their own chocolates, which is the part most people book for.
