The Deutsches Technikmuseum is enormous and occupies the site of the former Anhalter freight yard, with a Douglas C-47 Skytrain — a Berlin Airlift raisin bomber — mounted on the roof as its most visible feature.
The railway collection is the strongest element, housed in surviving roundhouses with turntables and around forty locomotives and carriages spanning the history of German rail, including a Kaiser's saloon car and material addressing the Reichsbahn's role in deportations to the camps, which the museum confronts directly.
Aviation, maritime, printing, photography, computing, textiles and brewing fill other halls, and the Spectrum science centre alongside offers hands-on experiments for children.
Historic mills and a brewery operate in the grounds.
