Egersund Fayancefabrik operated from 1847 to 1979 — 132 years of Norwegian stoneware and faience production in a small town on the southwest coast, founded by a Scottish-born entrepreneur and supplying tableware, tiles, sanitary ware and decorative pieces across Scandinavia.

The museum holds the factory's output across that span, which functions as a survey of changing Norwegian domestic taste: Victorian transfer-printed patterns, art nouveau, the functionalist designs of the interwar period, and the mid-century modern work that is now most collected.

The industrial history matters locally. The factory was the town's principal employer for generations, and its closure was a substantial blow.
