Planning your visit
Bob Meijer founded the KattenKabinet in 1990 in memory of his red tomcat John Pierpont Morgan, and it occupies the family's seventeenth-century canal house on the Herengracht — one of the few grand houses on the Golden Bend that the public can enter, with painted ceilings, panelled rooms and a garden.
The collection is art in which cats appear: a Picasso lithograph, a Rembrandt etching, work by Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen's poster designs, Corneille, and a great deal of nineteenth and twentieth-century painting, drawing, sculpture and advertising.
Resident cats live in the house and sleep on the furniture, which is the point as much as the pictures.
Rooms have been used as film locations, including for Ocean's Twelve.
