Klimt Villa in Vienna’s Hietzing district was Gustav Klimt’s studio from 1911 until his death in 1918. The villa has been restored and is now open to the public, offering insights into Klimt’s life and work.
Planning your visit
Klimt rented this garden house in Hietzing in 1911 and worked in it until his death in 1918 — the last and longest-occupied of his studios, where The Bride, The Dancer and Lady with a Fan were painted, several of them left unfinished on the easels.
The building was later encased in a neo-Baroque villa, and the restoration completed in 2012 rebuilt the studio rooms as they were, using photographs Moriz Nähr took shortly after Klimt died: the reception room where clients waited, the working studio, the furniture and the Japanese and East Asian objects he collected.
No original paintings hang here — those are at the Belvedere and the Leopold — but the room in which they were made is the offer, along with the garden he painted in.
