The Living Museum of Gingerbread in Toruń offers an interactive experience where visitors can learn traditional gingerbread baking techniques, participate in workshops, and explore the history of this local delicacy.

Toruń has made gingerbread since the medieval period — the city sat on trade routes bringing spices north, had access to honey, and by the sixteenth century its katarzynki were known across Europe. Carved wooden moulds, some of them large and elaborate, pressed the dough into figures and coats of arms, and originals survive in the city's collections.

The Living Museum of Gingerbread is a working demonstration rather than a display. Visitors are led by costumed guides through the traditional process — grinding spices, mixing, kneading, pressing into carved moulds and baking — and take home what they make. The session is participatory throughout and runs on a schedule.

Toruń itself is a UNESCO-listed Gothic town, largely undamaged in the war, and the birthplace of Copernicus, whose house is a museum nearby.
