La Bombonera is the most atmospheric football ground in the world by common consent, and the museum inside it covers Boca Juniors — the club of the working-class dockside neighbourhood of La Boca, founded by Genoese immigrants in 1905, whose blue and yellow colours were taken from the flag of the first ship to enter the harbour.

The stadium's shape explains the name: one side rises almost vertically as a flat wall of terracing because there was no room to build a fourth curve, which makes it a chocolate box and concentrates the noise appallingly.

The museum covers the club's history, the Libertadores titles, and above all Diego Maradona, who played here at the start and end of his career and whose presence in the building is closer to religious than sporting. Interactive exhibits and multimedia carry it, and the stadium tour takes in the pitch and the dressing rooms.
