Alfa Romeo is the marque that other manufacturers' engineers admire, and its museum at Arese outside Milan covers over a century of that. The building stands on the site of the old Alfa factory, closed in the 1980s, and reopened as a museum in 2015 after a full redesign.

The collection is arranged over three floors under the themes of timeline, beauty and speed. The racing material is the strongest: Alfa dominated grand prix racing before the Second World War, won the first two Formula One world championships in 1950 and 1951, and Enzo Ferrari ran Alfa's racing team for years before founding his own marque. The road cars trace Italian design history through Giulietta, Giulia, Montreal and the Bertone and Pininfarina bodies.

A 4D cinema, workshops and a cafe fill out the visit, and the original test track is beside the museum.
