Located in Salalah’s Al Baleed Archaeological Park, this museum highlights Oman’s rich frankincense trade and maritime heritage through artifacts and exhibits.

Frankincense grows in the Dhofar mountains behind Salalah and essentially nowhere else in comparable quality, and for millennia it was among the most valuable commodities traded anywhere — burned in temples from Egypt to Rome to China, and carried north by camel caravan or by sea.
The museum sits inside Al Baleed Archaeological Park, the excavated remains of the medieval port city of Zafar, which is part of the UNESCO Land of Frankincense listing.
Two halls cover the subject: the History Hall on Omani civilisation from prehistory, and the Maritime Hall on Oman's seafaring, which reached East Africa, India and China long before European ships did. Models of dhows and the ocean-going baghlah are the strength.
The archaeological park around it can be walked or seen by boat along the creek.
