MUVIS occupies a former winery in Castiglione in Teverina, in the Lazio hills near the Umbrian border, and the building itself is the principal exhibit — a nineteenth-century cellar complex descending several levels into the tufa, with the barrel halls, fermentation vats and gravity-fed layout intact.

The museum covers winemaking traditions and technique alongside the wider agri-food sciences of the region: olive oil, cereals, and the agricultural practices of central Italy, with historical equipment and documentation.

The setting is the Teverina, the valley above the Tiber, a landscape of vineyards, olive groves and hill towns that sees little tourism despite sitting between Orvieto and Viterbo.

Orvieto, with its cathedral and its own underground tunnels, is the nearest substantial destination and the usual base. Allow ninety minutes. The main booking is an entry ticket. Current availability is shown below.
