Located in the west wing of the Ajuda National Palace, the Royal Treasure Museum showcases over 1,000 items from the Portuguese Royal Family’s collection, including rare jewels, insignia, and decorations.

The Royal Treasure Museum opened in the west wing of the Ajuda Palace in 2022, and it holds over a thousand pieces from the Portuguese crown collection — jewels, insignia, orders, silver and diplomatic gifts accumulated across centuries of monarchy.
The Brazilian dimension is the story behind much of it. Portugal's colonial possession supplied gold and diamonds in enormous quantity through the eighteenth century, and the crown jewels reflect that: the Star Diamond, the elaborate insignia of the royal orders, and gem-set pieces on a scale the country's size would not otherwise support.
Security is substantial, with the treasury housed in a purpose-built armoured structure.
The Ajuda Palace itself, a nineteenth-century royal residence left incomplete, is separately visitable and worth combining.
