Established in 1998 by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum is a private institution located in Al Shahaniya, Qatar. The museum houses over 30,000 artifacts spanning four main themes: Islamic Art, Qatari Heritage, Vehicles, and Coins & Currency. Notable exhibits include a traditional Syrian house reassembled on-site and a collection of over 600 antique vehicles. The museum aims to preserve and promote Qatar’s cultural heritage through its diverse and extensive collection.

The Sheikh Faisal Museum is one man's collection, and its scale and eccentricity follow from that. Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani spent decades acquiring, and the result is over 30,000 objects in a purpose-built fort-like complex out at Al Shahaniya in the desert west of Doha, organised into four broad themes that sit oddly together and are all the better for it: Islamic art including manuscripts, carpets and metalwork; Qatari heritage covering bedouin and pearling life; a coin and currency collection; and more than 600 antique vehicles, from early motor cars to the Land Rovers and Cadillacs of the oil era. A complete traditional Syrian house was dismantled and reassembled inside.

It is a private museum and feels like it — less curated narrative than accumulation, which some visitors find overwhelming and others find refreshing after more polished institutions. Allow two hours minimum.

The location, roughly forty minutes from central Doha, means most bookable options include transport and pair it with the surrounding area. The camel racing track nearby is the standard combination, and worth timing around: races are run with robot jockeys, with owners driving alongside the track operating them by remote control.
