The Tam Coc Museum is a working demonstration rather than a display case. Set among the limestone karsts of Ninh Binh, it covers Vietnamese rice culture — the tools, the processing, the daily labour behind a crop that shapes the landscape you drive through to reach it — and it does so by having visitors do the work. Pounding rice with a foot-operated pestle, making rice cakes, trying embroidery under the direction of local artisans: the activities are the exhibition.

Ninh Binh is often called Ha Long Bay on land, and its karst valleys, rivers and rice paddies are the reason most visitors come. The museum gives that scenery an explanation, which is more than most stops in the area attempt.
