Thanh Ha Terracotta Park

Thanh Ha Terracotta Park in Hoi An, Vietnam, is a cultural park dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditional pottery of Thanh Ha village. It features a museum of traditional craft villages, outdoor exhibitions of miniature world wonders made of clay, and diverse pottery products.

Planning your visit

Thanh Ha has made pottery for over 500 years, supplying the bricks, tiles and vessels of Hoi An when it was one of Southeast Asia's major trading ports, and the village still works — kilns firing, wheels turning, families in the same trade for generations.

The Terracotta Park opened in 2011 to keep that going. It combines a museum of Vietnamese craft villages with an outdoor field of miniature world landmarks built in clay — the Colosseum, Angkor Wat, Notre-Dame and others at a scale visitors walk among — which is unexpected and photographs well.

The workshops are the substance: throwing on a foot-driven wheel with a potter's guidance, and the results can be fired and collected or taken away raw.

It is a few kilometres from Hoi An's old town, reachable by bicycle or boat.
