Tsingtao Beer Museum

Located at the birthplace of Tsingtao Beer, this museum offers insights into its century-long history, brewing techniques, and includes beer tasting experiences.

Planning your visit

Germany held Qingdao as a colony from 1898, and the brewery its settlers built in 1903 outlived the concession by more than a century — Tsingtao is now among the largest beer brands in the world, still using the Laoshan spring water that determined the site.

The museum occupies the original brewhouse, and the German industrial architecture with its brick and ironwork is preserved. The route covers the colonial founding, the Japanese period, the century of production, and the process, with original copper vessels, the early bottling line and a preserved fermentation room.

Two tastings are included — unfiltered fresh beer drawn near the line, which is not exported, and the standard bottled product — and the comparison is the highlight.

A deliberately tilted room near the end is a fixture of the visit.
