The Vietnam People's Air Force Museum covers the air war from the Vietnamese side, and its most significant exhibit is a MiG-21 credited with shooting down a B-52 during Operation Linebacker II in December 1972 — the eleven-day bombing campaign over Hanoi that the Vietnamese call the Dien Bien Phu in the air.

The outdoor display holds MiG fighters, helicopters, transport aircraft, surface-to-air missile launchers and radar equipment, much of it Soviet-supplied. Indoors are photographs, documents, personal effects of pilots, and material tracing the air force from its founding in 1955 through the wars against France and the United States.

The disparity in the conflict makes the collection interesting: a small air force flying older aircraft against overwhelming American air power, and the tactics developed in response.

It is less visited than Hanoi's central museums, which suits it.
