The River Plate Museum sits inside the Monumental, Argentina's largest stadium and the ground where the national team won the 1978 World Cup final. It covers over 3,500 square metres, tracing the club from its 1901 founding in the working-class dockside of La Boca — before it moved north to Núñez and acquired the nickname Los Millonarios — through the great sides of the 1940s, the Libertadores titles, and the players it produced, from Di Stéfano to Kempes to Crespo.

Argentine football rivalry is unlike anything in Europe in intensity, and the museum handles the Boca Juniors relationship with the appropriate lack of neutrality. The 2018 Libertadores final, played against Boca and eventually decided in Madrid, is recent enough to still be raw and is covered accordingly.
