The Da Nang Museum covers the city and the surrounding region across natural history, social history and the wars — the anti-French resistance, the American war, and the local experience of both, since Da Nang was where the first American combat troops landed in 1965 and hosted one of the largest airbases in the world.

The museum relocated into a restored French colonial building, which suits the material better than its previous purpose-built home. Exhibits cover the ethnic minority cultures of the central highlands, traditional fishing and agriculture, urban development, and war remnants including weaponry and photographs.

For visitors, it functions as context for a city that has transformed rapidly into a beach and resort destination and shows little of its history on the surface.

It is central and takes about an hour, easily combined with the Cham Sculpture Museum nearby, which covers an entirely different and much older layer of the same region.
