Planning your visit
The Little Museum of Dublin was assembled from public donations. In 2011 its founders appealed for objects telling the story of twentieth-century Dublin, and over 5,000 arrived — photographs, letters, furniture, advertising, political ephemera, personal effects — which now fill a Georgian townhouse on St Stephen's Green.
The visit is a guided tour and that is the point: the guides are performers as much as historians, and the museum's reputation rests substantially on them. The narrative runs through the century — the 1916 Rising, independence, the Emergency, emigration, the Catholic Church's grip and its collapse, the Celtic Tiger and the crash — told through objects with individual provenance rather than institutional collections.
The U2 room, assembled with band cooperation, is a fixture.
Tours run hourly and are the only way to see the museum, so timing matters. It sits on the north side of St Stephen's Green. Allow an hour. The main booking is a guided tour ticket. Current availability is shown below.
