Gaudí House Museum

The Gaudí House Museum, located within Park Güell in Barcelona, was the residence of architect Antoni Gaudí from 1906 to 1925. It now houses a collection of furniture and objects designed by Gaudí, offering visitors insight into his life and creative process.

The Gaudi House Museum is where Antoni Gaudi actually lived, from 1906 until 1925, and the modest scale of it is instructive after seeing the Sagrada Familia. The pink house was built as a show home for the Park Guell estate — Eusebi Guell's plan for a garden suburb of sixty houses, which failed commercially, selling only two — and Gaudi moved in partly to help sales. He stayed nearly twenty years, leaving only when he moved into the Sagrada Familia workshop for the last months of his life.

The interest is in the furniture. Gaudi designed pieces for Casa Batllo, Casa Mila and Casa Calvet, and many are here: chairs, benches, mirrors and devotional objects, shaped to the human body in ways that look startlingly modern. His bedroom, study and personal effects are preserved, including the room where his ascetic later life is documented.

The house sits inside Park Guell but requires its own separate ticket, which surprises people — park admission does not include it.
