Budapest's Museum of Ethnography reopened in 2022 in one of the more striking new museum buildings in Europe: a curved structure in City Park with a walkable green roof that rises from ground level, so the building doubles as a public park and a viewing platform over the city. Most of the museum is below that roof, lit through a glazed central atrium. The exterior carries a pixelated metal grid reproducing ethnographic motifs from Hungarian and international folk objects.

The collection runs to over 200,000 objects, photographs, manuscripts and audio recordings — one of the largest ethnographic holdings in Europe. Hungarian folk culture is covered in depth, alongside material collected globally, and the permanent exhibitions take an unusually reflective approach, examining how ethnographic collecting itself worked and what it assumed. It closes on Mondays.

The building is part of the Liget Budapest development in City Park, which also holds the House of Music and the Museum of Fine Arts, so combining several in a day is practical and the park itself is pleasant.
