Intrepid Museum

The Intrepid Museum in New York City showcases exhibits on military, aerospace, and maritime history, featuring the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier, the Space Shuttle Pavilion, and the Concorde.

Planning your visit

The Intrepid is a Second World War aircraft carrier moored on the Hudson at Pier 86, and she had an eventful career: commissioned in 1943, hit by kamikaze aircraft and torpedoes in the Pacific, later serving in Vietnam and recovering Mercury and Gemini space capsules. The flight deck and hangar deck are open, with aircraft ranging from wartime fighters through Cold War jets to an A-12 Blackbird spy plane.

Two other exhibits make the visit unusual. The Space Shuttle Enterprise, NASA's prototype orbiter used for approach and landing tests, sits under a pavilion on the flight deck. And a British Airways Concorde is moored alongside — the aircraft that held the transatlantic speed record — which visitors can board.

The submarine USS Growler, a Cold War missile boat, completes the set and is genuinely tight inside.

The scale means real walking, much of it outdoors and exposed on the flight deck, so weather matters. Allow three to four hours for everything. It sits on the West Side at 46th Street. The main booking is an entry ticket. Current availability is shown below.
