Laima is Latvia's chocolate brand and has been since 1870, and the clock outside the Freedom Monument — the Laima clock — is the standard meeting point in central Riga, which gives some sense of how thoroughly the company is embedded in local life.

The museum covers that history: the company's founding, its development through independence, Soviet nationalisation when it continued producing under state control, and the post-1991 period. Interactive exhibits cover cacao cultivation, chocolate manufacture and the machinery involved, and historical packaging design traces Latvian graphic style across the twentieth century.

Masterclasses are the more engaging half, with visitors making and decorating their own chocolate, and tastings run through the visit.
