Located in Miami’s Wynwood district, the Museum of Graffiti is the first institution dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of graffiti art, featuring both indoor and outdoor exhibitions.

Planning your visit

The Museum of Graffiti opened in 2019 in Wynwood as the first institution devoted to the form, and its location is not incidental — Wynwood was a warehouse district transformed by the Wynwood Walls project into an open-air gallery of commissioned murals, and the surrounding streets are as much of the visit as the building.

The indoor galleries cover the history: New York subway writing in the 1970s, the codes and hierarchies of tagging, throw-ups and pieces, the movement's spread internationally, and the arguments about vandalism, gentrification and institutional co-option that follow it around. Original works, photographs and documentation trace the lineage.

The museum takes the form seriously as art history rather than as urban decoration, which distinguishes it from the mural tourism outside its doors.
