The Frost Science museum rebuilt itself completely in 2017, moving to a purpose-designed complex in Museum Park on Biscayne Bay, and the aquarium is what distinguishes it. A three-level Gulf Stream tank holds sharks, mahi-mahi and other open-ocean species, and the design lets you view the same water from above through a 31-foot-wide oculus and from below through the tank wall — the change in perspective is the point, and it works.

Alongside it, the Frost Planetarium projects onto a 67-foot dome with full-dome video, and the science galleries cover living systems, human biology, the physics of flight and Florida's specific ecology — the Everglades, coral reefs and the aquifer that supplies the region.

The museum is strongly oriented to families and STEM education, and it fills a day comfortably. It sits directly beside the Perez Art Museum Miami, so the two make a natural pairing on the same waterfront park.
